EMDR Community

Trauma Recovery, EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Programs

Founded in 1995 by Francine Shapiro, Phd, Trauma Recovery, EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Programs (Trauma Recovery/HAP) is a nonprofit organization with a mission to increase the capacity for effective treatment of psychological trauma in under-served communities anywhere in the world. Trauma Recovery/HAP has a long history of involvement in Sri Lanka. Beginning in 2005 in response to the Tsunami of December 2004, HAP sponsored a group of EMDR therapists to travel to Sri Lanka and help the thousands of individuals impacted by the natural disaster. This began a multi-decade capacity building effort to increase the number of local EMDR trained clinicians through HAP sponsored trainings and support the building of a robust EMDR community in Sri Lanka. This work continues today.
